b)            All line and leaders including double line must comply with the IGFA requirements pertaining to either 30lb. or 50lb. line class and the Tournament Committee has the reserved right to test the line of any angler. The 30lb. and 50lb. lines have to be on the respective 30lb & 50lb reels.

c)             Any line exceeding the IGFA requirements will be disqualified. Reels exceeding 50lb. class will not be permitted.

  1. The Marlin Masters Invitational is composed of a Boat Division and an Anglers Division.  The Anglers Division must comply with the specific Marlin Masters Angler rules below while still being eligible for the top boat prize.  The purpose is for the Angler Division to compete on a dead bait basis (pitch bait and lures with bait or naked bait), while still being able to be in the Boat Division and compete with lure fishing boats.

The rules for the Boat Division and Anglers Division are as follows:

Marlin Masters Invitational Boat Division

a)            You must have three anglers fishing.

b)            They must rotate clockwise every hour.

c)             No more than four hooked lines are allowed in water at any time.

d)            There is no limit on the number of teasers that can be used.

Marlin Masters Angler Division

a)            You must have three anglers fishing.

b)            They must rotate clockwise every hour.

c)             Bait and Switch must be used for short (flat) lines. The long lines (outrigger lines) will have dead bait or lures with dead bait.

d)            There is no limit on the number of teasers that can be used. Teasers will be placed in the location where the short rigger or flat lines are normally used, and controlled from the fly bridge or from the transom of the boat.

e)             The angler in the pitch bait position will have control of all the teasers and any fish that is attracted by those teasers can be hooked only by using the Bait and Switch system by that angler. The anglers in the long (outrigger) position cannot take their lines from the outrigger clips to try to hook that fish.  If the fish fades back from the pitch bait angler, the pitch bait angler will be deemed to have lost control of the fish and becomes a possible outrigger angler fish.

f)             Anglers in the long (outrigger) position may not advance the position of their bait and/or lure bait combination past the original position from where it was located in the outrigger clip.

g)              If there are two fish on the teasers, the outrigger angler on the side of the boat on which the second fish is raised will be able to pitch bait to that fish but only after the pitch bait angler is hooked up.  No angler can place his bait in the side of the boat where the other angler is fishing.

h)            The first angler to hook the fish controls the boat.

i)             Teasers will not be placed at more than half the distance between the transom and the long bait and no angler using the Bait & Switch system will be permitted to drop his bait farther back than where the farthest teaser was located when the fish was first raised.

  1. Hook up

When an Angler has hooked a fish the other Anglers in the boat shall immediately retrieve their baits and remove them from the water unless another fish is sited in the spread. In case of a double hook up (two fish on two different lines) the first Angler to hook up shall have control of the boat until the first fish is released, tagged or lost.

  1. Mandatory Hook Requirements

J hooks may be used for Boat Division lure fishing only, regardless of line class. Circle hooks must be used with natural bait and with natural bait artificial lure combinations. Circle hooks are defined as any hook regarded as a circle hook designated by the manufacturer and the hook must be non offset.
